Moving Forward

The Oxford Principles are an important starting point, but by no means should they be seen as complete or sufficient to ensure that geoengineering research is conducted responsibly.

It is unclear how governance of climate geoengineering will be taken forward, but there does need to be serious consideration about how research should be conducted and how decisions whether or not to deploy any resulting technology should be made. In that spirit, the authors of the Oxford Principles invite further efforts to refine the existing principles, expand or reduce the list, as well as to develop specific research protocols and stage gates for existing and proposed research projects.
